Spelling Bee

Spelling Bees, or competitions to see who is the best word speller, are very common at school in English speaking countries. I remember having spelling tests every week at primary school. In the US is the famous National Spelling Bee which is even broadcast on ESPN. So it's very serious, with words I've never ever heard of.

Have a look here http://www.spellingbee.com/ to find out more.

Beijing May 2011

Here are a few shots from Beijing during my company trip.

Great Wall grafitti

Watch your step, it's pretty steep.

Summer Palace

Protect the railings

The Olympic Bird Nest

Everyone loves Mickey Cat.

Fancy scorpions on a stick or beetle larvae. I'm scared to know what kind of meat that is.
Other surprises in Beijing: There are days with blue sky; Yoshinoya beef bowl has cauliflower and carrot; Drivers don't care about pedestrians, cyclists or anything else on the road; Things are not cheap.

Electricity

How about sharing some ideas to save electricity? This song may give you some hints, like a superhero winding a generator all day for us, or how about we stroke cats to get static electricity and run our computers?

Let's start with simple things like not leaving lights on when not in the room, and using a fan instead of the air conditioner.

Cut back where you can so those that really need the power can get it.

We have the power to reduce power.

Head up, Power on

Firstly my condolences to all those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. My heart goes out to everyone.

Sorry for the lack of blogging recently. As you can see below, the last entry was about the earthquake in New Zealand. A number of our friends in Christchurch suffered serious damage to their houses, and some have lost their jobs due to the central business district closure. I'm sure the city will get back on feet in time, hopefully before too long.

March 11, 2011, what a catastrophe. Not just the people of Japan, but the whole world has been shocked by the devastation. After worrying for almost a month about friends in Christchurch and what could have been if we still lived there, then witnessing the destruction in Tohoku, I couldn't really find the appropriate words to blog for a while. As my friend said recently, the first month after the earthquake was a month to pray, not play.

But everyone must go forward, learn lessons for the future, and make a better, brighter Japan. We can do it and I'm looking ahead to that day.

Life goes on - To take it the right direction we need cooperation and compassion.
